About
Abbey View is a small modern development of 10 self-contained apartments, opened in 1993. Located in the heart of Sligo town with a variety of shops and facilities close by, these apartments provide service users with a great central location — for work, shopping, education and social activities. Abbey View also has a number of spacious multipurpose rooms that provide extra facilities for all users, including a kitchen, lounge and activities room; the last two rooms can be made into one very large room as the occasion demands.
Facilities
- 10 self-contained apartments, each consisting of a large sitting room/bedroom, with en suite bathroom and kitchen area with full facilities.
- 2 large multipurpose rooms (kitchen and lounge) for the benefit of all service users.
- Activities room, equipped with computer workstations and other facilities.
Services Available
- 24-hour care and support provided by trained staff.
- Respite services currently available year-round in 2 apartments.
- Staff assist service users with personal care, domestic tasks, leisure and social activities.
- Additional services, such as physiotherapy, currently provided to service users by the North Western Health Board.
- Abbey View's own transport facilitates service users in getting to and from their appointments and social activities.
Community Links
- Regular contact with other local service providers, including the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), MS Society and the Centre for ndependent Living (CIL).
- Community groups can use Abbey View's activities room for recreation and planned events.
- Links with the North Western Health Board help provide the services of a public health nurse, community dietician, occupational therapist and speech therapist. learning through listening
